Percussion Studies

Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced

University High School offers three levels of dedicated percussion study - Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced - during the school day, providing our percussionists with individualized learning plans and both small group and one-on-one instruction. Our Percussion Ensembles perform throughout the year and have been featured at FBA District and State Solo & Ensemble and FMEA Music Educators' Conference, as well as the Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival in Indianapolis. Percussion students at University delve into solo literature, percussion ensemble works, and perform with our concert ensembles.

Students explore the fundamentals of performance practices, improvisation, and music theory through a diverse repertoire of high-quality jazz literature. Students learn the basics of foundational jazz styles, use chord symbols, develop knowledge of musical structure, and study the history of jazz and its iconic musicians.
