The Symphony

Another popular genre of music to develop during the Classical Period is the symphony.

Symphonies were very popular among the general population (perhaps in part due to the fact you can follow one without speaking Italian.)

Symphonies have four movements:

  • Fast (usually in Sonata-Allegro form)
  • Slow
  • Dance (one of the movements of a Baroque dance suite, or later, a scherzo)
  • Fast
