Guillaume du Fay

1397 - 1474 AD

Guillaume du Fay was a Franco-Flemish (i.e. he lived in the Burgundian Netherlands, modern-day Belgium and Holland, which at the time was part of France) priest who gained fame throughout Europe as an inovative choral composer.

He began his career as a choir boy in Cambrai, by his late teens he had advanced in the ecclesial hierarchy and was working for Pope Martin V, whose papacy had ended the Western Schism. He moved around during the papal schism and eventually returned to his hometown.
