Tylman Susato began his career as a calligrapher in Antwerp, but by the mid-1500s had become one of the first publishers to produce music using a printing press. He ran an instrument shop and as such is one of the first known composers of purely instrumental music.
His "Pavane 'Mille Regretz'" is based on the piece "Mille Regretz" by Josquin des Prez, and is one of the first examples of a "cover album," as it were.
